I was driving home from Saturday’s Cars and Coffee in San Francisco at Treasure Island and was in boxed in in a pack of cars when from under the car areas of me emerged one of a lowered car’s worst enemies - a massive road gator; it was probably 6 feet long and 8-10 inches tall. Hit the brakes, but still only slowed down to maybe 50-55 mph, had no where to go but over the damn thing. etc.
Of course the dam thing had to hit right on the stripes...I was able to clean the black smudges off, but there’s now lots of scratches that I’m hoping I can buff out. I’m honestly surprised it didn’t do more damage. I still need to get the car up on jack stands to make sure it didn’t do any damage underneath.

Argh! That sucks, hope getting it back to its right state isn’t too much of a chore.

If you think that looks ugly, wait until I crawl under the HEMIWagon to pull the exhaust crossmember off (just there to prevent the exhaust from falling to the ground if it does come off).
Tried creeping over what seriously seemed like a parking stop. Wasn’t creeping slowly enough.
Worst. Sound. Ever.

Yikes.
I got peltered by roofing shingles this morning while following a delivery truck that lacked straps.
No major damages, but I had the scare of my life when I saw a cloud of large black rectangles fly toward me.
the road is a scary place for nice cars.

Ah! I didn’t know either. I was bitten by one last year. My rear wheel picked up a retread somehow and did a number on my wheel well. I’m close to the port of Oakland and the number of large trucks shedding retreads is alarming.

Morotcycles, too. I had a guy lose a washing machine(!) out of the back of his pickup truck a few years back and it bounced like a football with me swerving left and right trying to not get killed by the goddamn thing. Code brown moment for sure.

Driving through Arkansas in my brand new ‘97 SHO. Apparently there’s no requirement for mudflaps, because this POS stakebed cut in front of me and tossed a baseball-sized rock at my pristine windshield. Spent the first few hours of my vacation getting it fixed at the dealer. Motherfucker ....

Saw an entire couch in the middle of 405 when I lived down south!

Mud flaps help but don’t stop rocks altogether...had an 18 wheeler throw a golf ball sized rock into the window of my brand new 2011 Mustang GT.

What is it w/ hot Fords? For sure, the SHO wasn’t that fast, but it was best of breed.

Heh, there was this book “Why Do Clocks Run Clockwise” which poses the question of what happens to old tires, with a drawing of a guy wearing a road gator toupé

Damn man. I hear you. I hit a fiberglass ladder on 680N this Saturday. California :( I bet you can picture the kind of beat up pickup with a plywood tailgate that the ladder came from too.

No kidding! I was on vacation with the girl, in the Fiesta ST, windows down, cruising along the coast when the 18 wheeler in front of me hucks a golf ball at the top of my windshield. The initial damage was small but it started spreading. By the end of the trip the entire top half was cracked and damaged.

We need much higher penalties for losing retreads. Pretty serious road hazard, and it should not be ok to have them just fall off.

Would a clear bra prevent this sort of damage?

It may have helped with the scratches...I’m honestly surprised it didn’t make my bumper explode. Friend with the same car hit a tire tread and it destroyed his bumper. In that case, I doubt it would’ve helped at all.
